Getting Ready for the Trip

Norm always asks me how I can drag over 50 pounds and in reality more than 70 pounds of stuff with me on birding trips.  But with birding one has binocs, a field guide, a scope and a camera and maybe a lense.  There there is also the awkward tripod for the spotting scope which is in itself a really large lense.  For this trip there are the winter clothes (winter coat, boots, gloves, headband, wool socks and sweater and turtlenecks) for Colorado and in the higher elevations there will be snow and maybe lots of it and that means cold!  In California it is T-shirt weather, so hiking sandals, shorts, and Crocs!   So packing is not going to be easy.

I am hoping so much for a PTARMIGAN on this trip.  This is my nemesis bird, that I hope to see in the high elevation of Colorado!!!  Plus there is a whole list of other birds I hope to see and get good looks at.  I think both Jane and Connie would also be thrilled to see a Ptarmigan.  For me I would love to see a Ptarmigan in winter white plumage and we are going in the right time of year for the white plumage.  The bird gradually changes over to lovely brown by summer for cammoflage purposes.

The adventure begins in four days and I have so much to do such as little things as Income Tax, before I can leave home.
